FAQ
Questions, answered.
What is tallow, and why put it on my skin?
Tallow is rendered beef fat. Its fatty acid profile is remarkably close to your skin's own oils, which is why it has been used as a moisturizer for centuries. We only use grass-fed, grass-finished tallow.
Will it make me smell like beef?
No. Our tallow is carefully rendered, and each elixir is finished with wildcrafted botanicals. What you'll smell is the desert.
How do I use it?
Warm a small amount between your palms until it melts, then press it into skin. A little goes a long way.
Is it greasy?
It feels rich at first and absorbs within a few minutes. Start with less than you think you need.
Can I use it on sensitive skin or tattoos?
Our hydrosol-based elixirs (like Bella Vista and Human Hieroglyphics) are the gentlest options. As with any skincare, patch test first.
How long does a jar last?
With daily use on face and hands, most people get one to two months from a 2 oz jar. Store it somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight.
Why are the batches so small?
Our botanicals are wildcrafted by hand, and what we can gather changes with the seasons. When a batch sells out, that exact blend is gone.
